I think that digital citizenship is applying digital literacy to one’s digital footprint. Knowing how to work the web and new technologies is digital literacy; applying that knowledge to one’s digital self, now that is what digital citizenship is. It is about being a good digital citizen, protecting privacy, data security, the role of copyright and fair use, the role of the virtuous cycle as the professor talks about, making a profit (multiple meanings as I have learned from posts by the professor) off one’s work, all contribute to what digital citizenship is. The interactions that we have as people of the web is also what digital citizenship is. How we connect, what we connect with, and the modes of communication all contribute to what digital citizenship is. The different mediums of communication, like newspapers, television, the internet, email, and so forth, all contribute to what digital citizenship is. Overall, I think that digital citizenship is what we connect with and how we connect with in the new digital world.
